Gil's Legends: Photo Day

I had a truly dream season getting to know a great group of Legends players and teaching them some English. The opportunity to watch them up close and personal in several baseball games made the summer even more special. As a thank you to the players I commissioned my staff photographer, Keith Gilbertson to put together photo montages of the four players who were my most consistent students. At the last home game we presented the framed photos to the players. These slides reveal that the gifts were certainly appreciated and well received.

Legends visit BCTC Class

Lexington Legends players Arcenio Leon and Reinaldo Pestana stopped in to talk with Gil Rosenberg's sociology class at Bluegrass Community and Technical College. It was a question and answer session for the class and the players. Arcenio and Ray participated in ESL classes during this past summer with Gil as their teacher. While they have learned a lot more English, Gil invited a translator to participate. Fred deRossett, Spanish language professor from Berea College helped the players and the class understand each other. Both players answered questions about their favorite baseball players and about living in Lexington. As part of Arcenio's "graduation speech" he told the class in English, "You are welcome to come to Friday night's game. I will leave tickets for you if you give me your name."
It was evident in the many smiles that the Legends players and Gil's class enjoyed meeting each other.
